Webinar | From Research to Roadmap: Beyond the Catalog: How the University of Michigan's Center for Academic Innovation Builds Long-Term Employer Learning Partnerships

Hosted by the Noodle

Employers are under pressure to retrain their workforce faster than ever, and many are looking past their usual playbook of catalogs and one-off executive programs. At the same time, partnerships between employers and colleges and universities have been declining, even as demand for workforce learning grows.

The University of Michigan's Center for Academic Innovation (CAI) has built its employer partnerships around a different model: one that starts with an organization's strategy and workforce needs, then builds a coherent, evolving portfolio of learning around it, measured for real impact with employees and return on investment for employers.

This session brings together Michigan's CAI and Noodle to walk through what a long-term learning partnership looks like in practice, and what it takes for an institution to build one.

What We'll Cover

  • Why employer partnerships with higher ed are declining even as workforce learning demand grows, and what that means for continuing and professional education leaders

  • What separates a long-term learning partnership from a catalog of courses or a one-off executive program

  • How to measure what matters to employers: learning, application, and organizational impact, not just completion rates

  • How AI-enabled personalization can make learner support more scalable without replacing academic expertise or human guidance

  • Practical questions institutions can ask to assess their own readiness to build these partnerships and how to get started

You'll leave with a clear model for what a long-term employer partnership requires and a set of questions to bring back to your own team.

Speakers:
Suzanne Dove, University of Michigan
Alan Mlynek, Noodle

Webinar | How Prospects Use AI to Research and Choose Programs in 2026

Hosted by the Search Influence

Over half of higher ed prospects now go to an AI tool to research a program. And once they do, they don’t look far: 56% consider three programs or fewer before deciding. Programs that show up prominently in AI results are far more likely to make that list. If you’re not showing up, you’re already out of the running.

Join UPCEA and Search Influence to discover how prospective students use AI at each stage of their search, and learn what it takes to be the program they find and choose. We’ll unpack comparative findings from the How Prospects Search Studies in 2025 and 2026, and share the latest proven tactics to optimize your institution’s AI visibility.

After the webinar, bring your questions to the Search Influence Strategy Lab with AI search experts, CEO Will Scott and Director Paula French. Together, we’ll workshop actionable recommendations to help you reach and engage more prospective students.

Speakers:
Emily West, UPCEA
Paula French, Search Influence
Alison Zeringue, Search Influence

Webinar | Equipping Faculty with AI: Scalable Hyper-Personalization

Hosted by Axio

Most online courses follow the same pattern: read the module, watch the lecture, take the quiz. A quiz score shows what a student got right. It rarely shows how they're thinking, and in an online course of any size, faculty can't ask every student the follow-up question that would.

Belhaven University's pilot built that follow-up question into the course itself, through dialogue its faculty direct. This session looks at what changed for students and faculty when they did.

What You'll Learn:

  • How Interactive Learning Experiences work - A faculty-driven Socratic dialogue that personalizes instruction in real time, based on each student's demonstrated understanding.
  • What Belhaven's pilot data shows - Student and faculty satisfaction results from replacing passive content consumption with guided dialogue.
  • The unexpected boost in human rapport - A result Belhaven didn't expect going in, and what it suggests for online programs.
  • Launching an AI student success initiative - Practical lessons for getting an AI pilot off the ground at your own institution.

Speakers:
Dr. Rick Upchurch, Belhaven University
Mark Watts, Axio

Coffee Chat | Degrees, Designations, and Debt: The Cost of Being "Non-Professional"

Hosted by the Engagement & Opportunity Committee

Federal financial aid policies shape who can access higher education and how institutions design programs. This informal coffee chat will explore the consequences of the federal "professional degree" designation and how its narrow definition affects learners, institutions, and critical workforce sectors.

Participants can expect to discuss the challenges faced by students enrolled in programs that do not qualify as professional degrees for federal aid purposes, often requiring reliance on private loans despite preparing graduates for high-demand occupations. For example, the creation of associate degrees in teacher education raises questions about workforce shortages, credential pathways, and the evolving professional status of educators. Participants will also be encouraged to consider how other countries define, credential, and finance preparation for professions, and what lessons those models may offer for U.S. policy and practice.

Attendees will explore the characteristics and needs of learners in these programs, consider financial aid implications during program planning, and share institutional strategies for supporting students navigating these complex funding environments. Together, participants will examine both perspectives on professional preparation, access, affordability, and workforce development. Together we will create space for a candid conversation about how policy definitions shape educational opportunity and the engagement of learners.

Webinar | AI + Human Connection: Scaling Proactive Student Success at Arizona Online

Hosted by the AI Hub

How can institutions use AI to expand proactive student support without losing the human connection that matters most? In this webinar, leaders from the University of Arizona’s Arizona Online will share how they piloted an AI-enabled student success workflow to help coaches identify students needing support, bring together information from multiple systems, and create more timely, personalized outreach. The pilot enabled the team to send nearly 5,000 personalized messages in seven weeks—an estimated 32x increase in proactive outreach—while keeping coaches firmly in the loop to review, personalize, and approve communications.

The conversation will explore not only the technology, but also the implementation practices that made the pilot successful, including cross-functional collaboration, staff training, change management, human oversight, and responsible use of student data. Participants will leave with practical lessons for considering similar AI-supported advising and student success workflows at their own institutions.

Coffee Chat | Ready or Not? Accessibility, RSI, and the New Compliance Reality

Hosted by the Engagement & Opportunity Committee

Accessibility and Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) continue to be areas of significant focus for institutions offering online, professional, and continuing education programs. While the recent one-year extension of compliance deadlines for Title II web and mobile accessibility requirements provides some additional time, many institutions are still assessing the scope of work required to meet evolving expectations. At the same time, renewed attention to RSI—particularly within competency-based education (CBE) and other innovative learning models—is prompting institutions to revisit how they design and document meaningful instructor-initiated engagement.

Join colleagues for an informal coffee chat focused on sharing experiences, challenges, and emerging practices related to accessibility and RSI. Participants will discuss strategies for planning and prioritizing accessibility efforts, supporting faculty and instructional teams, documenting compliance, and balancing regulatory requirements with learner-centered design. Bring your questions, lessons learned, and ideas as we explore how institutions are preparing for the next phase of accessibility and online learning oversight.
