University of Delaware Associate Vice Provost, Professional and Continuing Studies & Online Initiatives Jim Broomall to Retire

During his thirty-year tenure at the University, Jim oversaw the expansion of the Division of Professional and Continuing Studies (UD PCS). His leadership has enabled UD PCS to become the non-traditional learner’s portal to the University, and his focused efforts on continuing, professional, and online education have grown the division’s annual reach to over 20,000 learners across the lifespan continuum.
Truly focused on providing exceptional lifelong learning opportunities, Jim also led the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Delaware in securing a $2 million grant and becoming a national model. He worked to relocate UD PCS to its own dedicated facility in 2016 and successful grew online learning graduate degrees and programs from two 2 to over 15 over the course of four years. What’s more, Jim served as president of UPCEA in 2004-2005 and was editor of the Journal of Continuing Higher Education from 2012-2015.
Jim has a B.A. cum laude from the University of Delaware, an M.Ed. from NC State, and a D.Ed. from Penn State. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. He plans to continue as a lifelong learner during his retirement.
