Dear Colleagues,

We are thrilled to invite you to the 2024 Annual UPCEA Conference hosted in Boston, MA, on March 26 - 28, 2024. Post-pandemic, our units have been presented with numerous opportunities to highlight the work we do, while being tapped to help our institutions to remain strong. The record participation in the 2023 Annual Conference has made it clear that the UPCEA community continues to value the opportunity to be together in-person to celebrate the incredible thought leadership and work done by our members and to learn from each other. We are confident that we are going to see an even bigger turn-out for Boston as we look to the future for our professional, continuing and online (PCO) units and the important work we do.

Higher education is ever-evolving, and our work could not be more important than it is today. With a looming demographic cliff of traditional aged undergraduate students, institutions are looking to PCO units to provide revenue growth. We are charged with balancing that revenue growth by delivering on our mission to increase access and affordability to quality education; supporting our students in more holistic ways; actively building diverse, equitable and inclusive environments; and serving as  a vital partner within our local communities. This is both an exciting and challenging time as we navigate these sometimes conflicting goals.

This year’s conference will be centered on themes such as growing our impact through expanded access and innovation (focused especially on emerging topics such as AI), broadened inclusivity, policy advocacy, organizational transformation, engaging faculty and other critical partners, and building our individual networks.

Finally, as we strengthen our personal networks, learn and grow within the community that is passionate about lifelong learning, we will celebrate together in a city that was transformational in the history of the United States — see you in Boston in March 2024!

Warm regards,

John Wells
Senior Vice Provost for Life Long Learning & Professor of Information Management, UMASS Amherst
